In late 2022, we looked for a place to live in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Our trend the previous two winters was to bathe our skin in the Riviera Nayarit sun. We had spent one month, then three months consecutive years. This little fishing town on the Pacific sea held me close after the passing of my sister, so there was a special place in my heart for the town.
When we couldn’t find a home for 2023, we chose the Yucatan to explore. We flew into Merida and drove the coast visiting Progreso, Telchac and Chelem. The towns were just as charming as La Cruz with delicious seafood, lovely locals and proximity to big city life. I loved it just the same and planned a getaway with a few other families for winter 2024.
In April of 2023, a friend texted me to ask about renting a place in La Cruz for a year. That evening I talked to J about it and I told him I could use it as a nervous system reset.
